SalahWaqt (the "app") helps you find masjids near you and see their prayer times. This page explains what information the app and its server handle, why, who else sees it, and how you can have it deleted. You can write to us at any time at support@masjidfinders.in.
1. Information we collect
| Account details | When you sign up: your mobile phone number, first name, last name and a password. The password is stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody (including us) can read it. We do not currently send SMS codes, so the number is not verified by text message. |
|---|---|
| Favorite masjids | The masjids you save (up to five), so they appear on any device you sign in on. |
| Location | Only when you choose "near me" or "use my current location", and only after your phone asks your permission. The app sends your coordinates to our server to find masjids within your chosen distance and to calculate prayer times for that place. We do not store these coordinates and do not link them to your account. You can refuse or withdraw the permission in your phone settings and still use the app by typing a place name. |
| What you type when choosing a place | Place names you search for are sent to public map services (see section 4). |
| Masjid administrators | If you manage a masjid, the masjid details and prayer times you enter. These are shown to everyone. Your name and phone number are not shown publicly. Our team also keeps a private record of how each masjid was verified, and a log of administrative actions that does not contain personal details. |
| Technical logs | Our server records standard request information such as your IP address, the time and the address requested. We use it to keep the service secure and to fix problems, and for nothing else. |
| Stored on your device | Your sign-in token (in your phone's secure storage) and your choices on the home screen, such as the chosen place, calculation method and Asr setting. These stay on your device. |
2. How we use it
- to create and secure your account and sign you in;
- to show masjids and prayer times, including near you;
- to let masjid administrators keep their masjid's timings up to date;
- to prevent abuse and to investigate problems with the service.
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell or rent it.
3. What we do not do
- We do not show ads and the app contains no advertising or analytics software.
- We do not track your location in the background. Location is read only when you ask for it.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
4. Who else receives information
We use a few services to run the app. Each receives only what it needs.
- Hetzner Online GmbH hosts our server in Germany. Your account data is stored there.
- Aladhan (aladhan.com) calculates prayer times. Our server sends it coordinates (for the home screen, rounded to roughly a kilometre) and the calculation method. It does not receive your name, phone number or account.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim and Photon (by Komoot) look up places and addresses when you search for a location or pick one on the map. They receive what you type or the point you pick, and, as with any website, your IP address. OpenStreetMap also provides the map tiles shown when an administrator picks a masjid's location. These services have their own privacy policies.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account details and favorites until you delete your account. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting. Prayer times calculated for your location are held in the server's memory only, rounded to about a kilometre, and are not tied to you.
6. Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account yourself: open the app, go to Menu → Profile → Delete account and enter your password. Your name, phone number, password and favorites are removed straight away. If you cannot open the app, see how to request deletion.
- If you managed a masjid, the masjid and its timings stay in the app, without an administrator, because they belong to the community. No personal details about you remain on it.
- Copies of the database kept in routine server backups are overwritten as backups rotate, and are kept for no more than 30 days.
7. Your choices and rights
- Correct your name in the app under Profile, and change your password under Change password.
- Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@masjidfinders.in.
- Turn location access off at any time in your phone settings.
8. Security
All traffic between the app and our server uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, and an account is temporarily locked after several wrong passwords. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a password you do not use elsewhere.
9. Children
The app is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
